So yes, Day #1 of the challenge. Being single. I'm not quite used to
this yet, so you'll have to hang in there with me for a bit, plus I'm rather
knackered at the moment so this might be sort of weird. But here we go.
Oh P.s. I'm changing it to "Being Single as a Teen"
Being both single and a teen is hard; I should know, I’m both. So many
things tell you that you aren’t cool if you aren’t dating someone, but that
ain’t true now is it? Like social media, a lot of things in there tell you
things like “if you aren’t skinny, youre shit” or “Blokes gotta have abs to be
someone”. But that’s just a load of bull.
You are beautiful. No matter what you look like, no matter what people tell
you, you are beautiful. You are unique. You are different. You are wonderful.
You are You.
You don’t have to be as skinny as a model or have perfect skin for
someone to love you. If people criticize you for not looking a certain way,
they don’t deserve you. You might not find someone who loves you for who you
are in high school, or maybe even college, but that’s okay, because it means
that the person who is supposed to love you for you is still out there, looking
for you, looking for the person that will love them for who they are.
Life isn’t perfect. There are bullies. There are put-downers. There
are places where you think you won’t make it, but you are strong. My mum used
to say “We are strong beautiful and barefoot.” And now I fully appreciate that.
YOU are strong and beautiful (You might not be barefoot).
A few days ago I was thinking, and came up with a weird little thing.
Life is like a road trip, and you’re the one in the driver’s seat. You
are in control of your car. There might be people driving with you, friends and
family. The ones that try to grab the wheel from you and take control of your
life are the ones that you need to make leave the car. Then you’ll feel better
and you’ll probably get more gas mileage. Then there’s people that you pick up
along the way. Some are great that you want to keep with you till the end of
the line, but more than that are the people that are toxic to you. They are the
ones that try to sabotage your car and make it break down. So it’s then up to
you to understand that they are harming your life and get rid of them. Then,
farther down the line, you find the person that you want to spend the rest of
your car trip with, and if it’s the right time, they’ll want to spend it with
you, too.
So as you could probably tell, I’m really bad at analogies, but what
I’m trying to say is that you’ll hit a few roadblocks along your life, maybe a
few crashes where you windup in the hospital, but my point is that you’ll get
through it. You’ll get through it and be happy. It gets better after school,
especially if you get a job that you really love.
I’m gonna pick on family for a sec. So my brother is about ten years
older than me. He went to college when I was eight, graduated when I was
twelve, the normal. I never thought he would be happy, like really happy, but
he proved me wrong because in about his second year of college he found the
love of his life. Now they are married and have a son. I have never seen my
brother happier. Before that happened I was depressed all the time, but then, I
guess to me it was kind of a sign or something. A sign that IT WILL GET BETTER.
I promise. There might be something that keeps you back, but you have to
remember, life isn’t waiting. Time is still passing by.
And you should live it to the fullest. Don’t let people or things hold
you back with their words or actions. People can be stupid sometimes, but it is
entirely your choice to let that get you down. Keep thinking about what my mum
said. YOU are strong. YOU are beautiful. YOU are worthy.
Forever yours,
The Green Dragon
